Does anyone know if there is a workshop manual and parts list still available for a McCulloch 120 chainsaw

Try these.

Bobs Lawnmower Service

or

Fayetteville Equipment

or fayettevilleequipment.com

Nice people at both places, specialize in New, Used, Curent, and Obsolete MAC equipment and parts.

Also don't forget that an Illustrated Parts List (IPL) is NOT a manual (despite someone describing it so in the first link shown above)!!! :mad: {I don't mean Ozflea's link, but the other one.}

IPL's are usually 4-8 pages of "exploded" drawings of parts of a saw, with numbers for each individual part (screw, washer, cylinder,... whatever) keyed to a legend on each page which shows the manufacturer's part number for each part. There is usually no text in an IPL... just the drawings and the part numbers.

Ozflea's CD for Mac's contains a huge number of IPL's on it, and a lot of other Mac information, and is well worth the money to anyone owning, operating and working on more than one model of Mac. Buying a half-dozen IPL's one at a time would cost more than Ozflea's CD, and not be 1/20th the number on his CD. If one model is all ya got and all ya plan to own, a single printed IPL for about $5 is cheaper. {But who among us only has only one model of Mac and is never gonna get any other?? :biggrinbounce2: }

Or ya might get lucky before ya grow a long white beard and find someone who has an extra copy they'll just give ya.... if ya buy 'em a beer and send 'em a postage stamp. :cheers: But don't count on it, if ya really need tha info yesterday....

Basically, there are four types of literature pertaining to each model of a chainsaw: The Operator's Manual (comes with the new saw and is pretty much just general information about simple routine maintenance and safety); the Shop Manual (normally distributed to dealers and authorized service shops, and now, for out-of-production saws, sought after by us chainsaw nuts... contains detailed step-by-step instructions for working on a saw, with photos and/or illustrations and references to part numbers, but, usually, no illustrations giving part numbers); the IPL (described above); and the manufacturer's Service Bulletins (issued after the saw is in production and use and identifying changes in parts, parts numbers, superceded parts, engineering re-designs and any other subjects about a certain model of chainsaw after production).

Shop Manuals, and IPL's for a specific model chainsaw may change over time during and after the saw's production. The date of publication is sometimes a key to whether the publication contains changes to parts, part numbers, superceded numbers, etc.

Service Bulletins are/were issued sequentially by date and number and each one might contain information about one or more models of saws. There are some Master Lists of Service Bulletins which identify which Service Bulletins pertain to which models of chainsaw. Again, the date of the issue of the Master List might determine whether it shows all Service Bulletins for a specific model.

So..... if, like ya say in yer original post.... yer lookin' for a Shop Manual and an IPL fer yer 120 or yer BP-1.... yer talkin' about two different publications. And yes, they exist. A lot of members of this forum have them in various formats.... printed originals, copies of printed originals, on CD's, and on microfilm.

If yer gonna do a lot of work on yer saw, ya might wanna also try to get copies of any Service Bulletins fer that model.... sometimes they have info in 'em that the Shop Manuals don't....

:sucks: {Not really!!} :hmm3grin2orange:
