On a nice Sunday after you've had a good day of worship at church and finished the afternoon meal, sometimes you get the aching to start the splitter up just to circulate the oil a little. While you are letting it idle, put the pallet up on it and break it apart with the ram. With most splitters the ram only comes within an inch of hitting the stop/wedge. Put another piece of wood against the stop to take up the space. Then you can use the splitter as a cutter before you split the slats.
Afterwards, get the old leaf blower out to clean the shreds and you're done!
