Another simple way to cut down on the theft is use camoflaged tarp over the ends or top of the pile. The mesh kind you use for hunting blind covers, they allow wind and air thru but not scumballs taking an armful now and again. Cut it in 16" strips and just staple it across the top or use bigger pieces just at the ends. Might make the pile look a little neater too.
