I recently scrounged a gigantic square tube. It is 8x12 and 3/8ths thick. I have decided to make an upright vertical splitter with a table about 30-36 inches tall. The beam is so big, that I want to keep it as short as possible. I don't want it tipping over on me. I would like to mount my cylinder like the ones on Power split splitters. I guess to explain it, the cylinder is mounted to a flange at the rod end of the cylinder which in turn is welded to the top end of the beam. Has anyone used this setup before? I worry about the strength of the setup because the cylinder is only mounted at one end. Thanks in advance.
