It amazes me how quickly in a public forum some are to speak on behalf of over 250 members who aren't all stupid.

What ever is stuck up your backside kf is not the issue of this question, you may either be a help or be a hindrance, and in true AS arrogant style we know which you portray. Pull your head out of Deans backside and smell the real world.

Boston, this is what I have found out from a variety of sites other than my own opinion because around here everybody's opinion is tainted with some preconcieved idea that it's better than a TH'ers. (typical loggers)

066 5.7Kw @ 13,000 rpm

395XP 5.2KW @ 12,500 rpm

3120XP 6.2KW @ 12,000 rpm

088 6.4KW @ 12,000rpm just incase you wanted to know.

you would be hard pressed to get a new 3120 to rpm 12000 rpm's with a 10000 rpm limtier coil in them now, the 12000 rpm dats for it has been long gone, if you want a big saw get the 088 and do a muffler mod on it

Ed, I'm curious. How many stock big saws turn greater than 10,000 in the cut?

the problem with the new 3120's is they now have the cut-off saw coil in them at a max of 10000 rpm's and the saw is to cut at around 9300 to 9600 rpm's problem is when the saw is on the limiter is runs like crap and when you push to bring it back off the limiter most people end up drawning the motor down to far below the rpm's that is was to cut at, now the older 3120's with the 11700 limiter was alot better and easier to run and to me it was a faster saw than today's boat anchor,

the data on the big saws will all tell you that they are to be under 10000 in the wood but hook a tack up to one that will rpm higher than that and make a cut and see what rpm you are really turning, you will be surprized at the number

Why the new coil? Can the new saws be retrofitted with the eariler ignition? I can't see a reason for a limiter. Looks like this would make proper carb adjustment tricky also.

the 3120 doesnot have a high speed jet that you adjust, it is pre set.
the reason for the limiter is not to break the rod which is the weak point in that saw and with the limiter what does most people do to the saw that has a adjustable high speed carb, turn that sucker in and she has to be faster correct so husky made your mind up for you in that department. No high speed jet.
The saw is a good saw but for the money I would go with the 088 but you have to at least muffler mod it cause most big saws stock are real pigs and will cut slower than your smaller saw , alittle porting and muffler work they are a total different saw and alot more fun to run

Mule on the coils , it depends on which flywheel the saw has cause the key way is in a different spot on the flywheels for the 3120, but you can always retime the motor to work with the higher rpm coils

The rpm limiter sounds like a bandaid fix. Oh well, both are far bigger than I would ever have a need for anyway.
