MS440 rebuild now low compression

Well I say test test and retest until it is perfect then take it from there. Until you seal that leak you don't know if there is another.

I’d dunk it, then you’d know for sure.

I put a carb from either a 460 or 461 on it (had to swap out the choke mechanism) and that seemed to fix it. She's running good now.
