I just bought an mtd 20 ton splitter last weekend. It's about 8 years old and looks brand new with the exception of the sides of the top of the I-beam that the gibs on the wedge ride on. The guy I bought it off of said he lost the gibs and his friend made him new ones. They are just 5/8 square steel keystock. This dosent seem right to me, I would think they should be made of a material softer than the steel I-beam like bronze or brass so they wear instead of the I-beam. Can anyone confirm this for me and does anyone know what kind of material they should be made of? I called mtd and the guy on the phone didn't know what they were made of.

Any help would be great thanks.
