So I had been looking at getting a 90cc ish saw for cutting and some smaller (less than 36”) milling projects. While I was there getting a few small parts I asked my local shop if they ever get in any larger used saws for sale, the answer being “No not usually, but we did just get in this big old Stihl.” Apparently it belonged to a family lumber company and was used whenever they needed to cut bundles of 2x4’s to length. Long story short after they put a new carburetor on it, it’s running tip top and followed me home! For $1000 I got the saw, 48” rollomatic bar, 36” rollomatic bar, 4-48” chains (3 unused) 3 of which are going to be shortened to 36”. I was a little hesitant at first about its age, but I figured if anything major happens to it I can part it out for at least what I have in it.
General condition seems very good and not used very much. The cable to the oiler button wasn’t hooked up which has been taken care of. There is one scuff/mark on the piston that can be seen through the exhaust port, should I worry about this, or just monitor after a few times running a minute or so? The metal plate between the bar and oiler bits it pretty badly damaged and will need to be replaced. Anyway, here are a few pictures, let me know what you think, and anything I should watch out for or tips/tricks beyond not skipping arm /shoulder day at the gym. Thanks!

The plastic coating on the metal badge is just starting to come off.

I let my 084 go for 800 with a 32" 3/8 bar.

I put a metor piston in it and chucked it. Your saw looks quite abit rougher then the one I had but upper end looks better since mine Was lean siezed

You also got a usefull bar 32" is all I had. It was a Husky small mount bar I adjusted to fit.20211110_075515.jpg

084'S A skookum choocher. that little scuff on the piston isn't an issue at all.

run 40-1 mix in it and don't look back.
that oiler button, is just a boost, as in it boosts the oil already provided by the automatic oiler, if your only run a 36 or even a 42 you will likely never need it, unless yer in some really soft dry wood.
Mine wears a 50" bar and really only needs the exter oil on cedars.
