I cut a small tree down at the edge of my woods and bucked up some logs. These are extremely heavy and hard as hell to split. Very stringy. I believe it's Siberian Elm. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. I might just wait until they dry out to split them. Here is a pic along with some leaves:
 
the siberian elm I cut has that same dark middle, but the bark is much rougher, like burr oak, but this is definitely elm based on the leaf. I'm pretty sure it's rock or red(which I've never cut.)
