Update...disappointed and ticked off
Found this ad locally. Just wondering if this is a "real deal" or not. I'm considering buying them and trying to resell a couple if I can (at least this is the story the wife will here). You guys give me some quick opinions if you can. They look pretty decent in the pics. Thanks
The most powerful saw Husky made the 3120xp pro with 36" bar and 404 chisel tooth oregon chain. Bar has Roller tip saw and bar are in excellent shape. Couple that with a Husky 266 xp pro with a 24" roller tip bar with 3/8" chain and this saw is in excellent shape as well, scabard comes with this saw. Moving dont need these any longer.
Incredible pricing $750 for BOTH!!! The 3120 by itself is around $900 new! For a full price offer I'll throw in my old Sachs Dolmar model 143 with it's 42" roller tip bar for free!!!
Well, I took off work a half day early and drove 60 miles (one way) to look at these and even stopped by the bank for the cash planning to bring them home. I had talked to the guys wife and she didn't know much about them but said "they all run good". I got the 266 running and the only thing broke on it was the choke handle, but he was nice enough to put a screw in there so it would work (this saw was NOT in "excellent" shape) but it did run good. OH, the data plate said 266SE not 266XP but I couldn't find much of a difference in the two on Acres site.
The 143 didn't have a pull rope or chain on it so I couldn't check much on it. He told me later on the phone that he thinks it "needs a ring on the piston", that it "started having problems and probably needs rebuilt". Since he didn't give a condition on it in the add, I figured it was toast but what I didn't see was the "full price offer" he was referring to in the ad was the price he had at the top of the add which was $850. So, he is figuring the value of the toasted 143 is $100.
I couldn't get the 3120 to start. It didn't have much mix in it and there wasn't any laying around so I found something to use as a funnel and poured the mix out of the other ones into it. I pulled and pulled, messed with the compression release and pulled but not so much as a pop. I tried the primer and it didn't seem to be working right. Again, later on the phone he said "oh yea, that needs replacing but it is not very expensive". Again, the ad said "excellent" shape. I pulled the air cleaner cover and air cleaner and it was dirty but shouldn't have kept it from running.
I gave up on getting it started, figured it was probably just me not holding my tongue right. I was looking it over good and tried the chain brake, pulled on the chain and it turned, engaged the chain brake, pulled on the chain and it STILL turned. Hmmm, not good for a saw in "excellent" shape. He said later, "it worked 6 months ago when i used it".
I started talking about an offer and he cut me off with " I know what they are worth and I'm not giving them away". Right now his bottom line is $800 for all three. I will give him a little time and call him again. Anybody still want that 143??? How about this "deal" now???
My lesson learned is to not rush somewhere a half tank of gas away without talking to the guy first and take my tools and some mix with me when I go. Just my luck that it sounded too good to be true at face value. If things were "as advertised" it would have been a good deal and thanks for the quick responses to my initial question.
I've tried not to make this a total rant since I could have taken my time but if someone had been driving off with three cherries when I showed up, I would have been real upset.
Ya'll take care
