Need to cover red maple and green giant over the winter?

Hello, I live in Cincinnati, Ohio, and have planted 5 red maple, and 3 green giant in the backyard this year. Do I need to cover them over winter? If so, how old do they have to be until they no longer need to be covered?

I don't cover any trees here. I'm not worried about snow, it's the freezing rain and ice that I watch for.

Mother planted one in her front yard in 95, it's huge now and never covered.
