What???? I cut firewood for 20+ years with nothing but a 3400!! Never had to look for parts. Now I have more than one saw, so thats not even a remote possibility, not having a saw to cut with.

Once you have one put together and running, there really is no need to be searching for parts! I guess I just don't GET some of you younger fellas.:D

Anyway, Have a Merry Christmas all!!!
Gregg,

We like to try new stuff haha.

Clay,

I wish I had something to offer up to you. Those saws are awesome. I might be able to put a 290 together for you, but it might take me a week or so.

What did you ever do with the small saws you found last week?

I drank from the green Koolaid!!

Picked this up today. Smilin' Possum kept telling me how good of saws they are, so I thought I would see for myself. Gonna need fuel lines and a carb kit.

Do you think it had a bow bar on it at one time? The way the clutch cover is cut out and it has a "kick stand" on the bottom that keeps the saw from sitting flat on the ground. You can see it in that one pic.

Thoughts?

Good looking saw and no doubt it was built for a bowsaw. That's exactly how the clutch cover side of the saw is made. Find a bow bar and you have a dual purpose saw

Poulan WildThing

OK you guys got me. Decided to get one. However which one? I've seen so many at differing cc's, I'm unsure. I assume parts are plentiful, if I find a parts saw? Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a joyous and healthy New Year. I've really enjoyed participating and picking ya'lls (proper verbage in Texas) brains this year. So many of you have been so helpful and I want you to know I really appreciate it. Best Wishes to you all.

I still have them but with school and work no time to fiddle with them. I know you can make a runner out of one. I would be interested in a 290 really like those 026s though haha.

Hey Bigblock, Steve's the one that opened my eyes to thesse great little saws. He gets mega pionts for everybody he converts over to um.

Steve,

So is that what the bracket on the bottom is for? To keep the bow bar from hitting the bround when you set the saw down?

Thanks!

Possum,

I hear ya!!!! I wouldn't say I'm a convert just yet.....I still like them orange and white ones awful good!!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Yes that handle bracket on that one is specific for a bow bar. As you can tell you can use it with a straight bar, the saw just won't set flat when its sitting down.

Its easy to swap out to a regular one if you want to.

Nice pickup by the way.

Here is a step by step on replacing the fuel lines on it. http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=156629&highlight=poulan+3400+fuel+lines

2.3 ps

Heres an older 2.3 saw that is kind of a mix from the parts bin at sears. It has the bigger 38cc engine but with the sliding black switch and trigger. It has the older Tilly carb and a super cool roller tip bar. It also has a floating rim sprocket and of course the Power Sharp, but regular 1/4'' chain no barracuda. It also has the cast muffler. Im thinking this is one of the earlier 2.3 saws as all the ones Ive had with similar to it had the 2.1 engine?

Joe, if that is all original, that is the first time I have ever seen a 2.3 saw with the sliding switch. EVER.

Not surprised the first one that I have seen would be a Craftsman. They did get some odd combos. Still have yet to see a Poulan 2.3 with a slide switch.

First Merry Christmas to all on AS and your families!
I thought the same Mark. I knew youd know for sure and yes it is original. The cyl base is stamped 2.3. It also has super compression and a very clean P/C.

Well I'm sorry guys, Merry Christmas to all of you.

Joe, like I said it don't surprise me that it was a Craftsman saw that way.

If that has the rim and drum setup you may want to change it out if your going to run it much. Far as I know that rim in 3/8's lp is real challange to find nowdays.
