Old wood burner tested today

Tested this to day, very effecient but it needs a lot of tlc.

I saw photos of stoves like that in the Finnish firewood book. I can imagine that scavenged much of the heat normally lost up the chimney.
 
Have no idea how old it is, has cracks that are repaired, but must put stones Inside it to protect the sides.

You have to burn with draft so it burns clean, and realy dry wood.

It has a metal sheet on the floor under the door.

Quite sure its over 100 years old, have three of them, two that are in the house and one is taken down and stored.

How do you move a stove like that without cracking or breaking a casting? That is a beautiful piece of iron work there. Is it very brittle? W Jones
 
I dont think they are so brittle, many of these are dismantled moved and restored, but its a lot of small cast iron ornaments that is very easy to damage
