There are some very positive reasons for burning fossil fuels , for instance there are the elderly who cannot do the work involved , handicapped, disabled , people who do not have wood resources in proximity or people who cannot afford chainsaws, trucks and other equipment plus they may not have the room for wood storage or the mechanical ability to do this type of work, also some have lot of money and rather spend time doing other things than busting tail cutting and stacking wood.

Does that make me an "elitist"?

What I have seen in this thread is when one poster attacks another follows ,
and then some start with the name calling because now they feel they have support of their friends so they get real brave and downright nasty....others don't have the stones to say what they may really feel so they distract by talking about food ......geee how diplomatic, playing follow the leader went out in grammer school so if you want to call himout and really feel he is FOS do it one on one with this guy and stand on your own 2 feet when you try it.

LOL Woodbooga, I think he's referring to you!

This guy has stuff to say so lets hear it , you gave this much into it go a little farther !!

So we rushed to judgement after being called prehistoric, elitist, hippies and should have been more sensitive to the underlying message in the post?

:ices_rofl::crazy1:

Keith, I was flat outta mushrooms when I cooked this one, just some twice baked potatoes and some broccoli smothered in cheesy goodness!

Don't worry, I LOVE using gas. My internal combustion cylinders depend heavily on it, so I'm burning wood so I can save the gas for them!

Well bluegill is my favorite fish but crappie is probably a close second. I'm thrilled when I'm able to catch either.

The only time I can catch a large amount of big bluegill is when they're spawning in the spring and I've hardly ever been able to do very good crappie fishing. I do what I've read and others say but the fish just don't seem to want to cooperate. I guess I'll have to ask CrappieKeith for some pointers.

I like my fish fried with corn meal and flour with some fries and home made tarter sauce. A few hush puppies ain't bad with them either.

Well Dan you come to the right guy for help .

Keith, here's a link to a map. It's not a very good one but it's the best that I cold find. http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/tay/article.asp?id=190

It's not known as a great crappie lake but it's the place that I usually fish because the boat ramp is only 13 miles from my house. I usually fish the eastern part of the lake since it is closest to me but I have fished the other parts too. The lake is loaded with stick ups. It has a 9" 15 fish limit and anytime that I get my limit I'm tickled pink. I haven't done that very often.

Any help that you can send my way will be appreciated and I will check out your site for tips. I can use all of them that I can get.

Looks like fossilefuels fizzled out .......thats to bad .

That Betty Crocker stance and follow the leader approach is quite a tough act to compete with so I guess you all ran him right off.........good fight men.

We are the elitist? You ever read "Fascism in America"? You and people like the Kennedy family try and tell the rest of us how to live? If you were as smart as YOU think you are; 1. You would realize that if we all switched to gas, the price would increase and we all would be paying more (it would cost some thousands to stay warm) 2.That people who depend too heavily upon the government/others to provide food, transportation, clothing, heat, shelter, love and a social life are the people that suffer the most during a crisis. 3. You would know that in order to gain the attention of people like ourselves, you MUST speak, write and think with perspective; a complete and un-leading and to the point truth of the issue, for example; if we are omitting a million tons of carbon into the atmosphere every day, what is the ratio? How much does the atmosphere weigh? Without the perspective, your language in your post is nothing more than emotive language, red herings and non-sequiters. 4. And lastly, you would do better in life if you were a litte happier with yourself. You seem un-satisfied with our country. Most of the people on this site are here for enjoyment, we seem to be comfortable and generally happy to be part of this great nation that so many fought and even died for.
So, if you wanna argue a point with conservative self-sufficient Americans, you better get your facts straight because the horse-crap hour and the love affair with socialism is already taken up by the three networks.

When I saw this thread active, I thought you guys were still sparring with the rag... uhm... gentleman of Middle Eastern descent. Good to know you're arguing about food and socialism instead.

I checked out the link and I was hoping for a topo map.
Do you use a fish locator to mark fish?

I really was planning on dissecting each one of these 'points' that have been made in the past couple days, then I realized it's not going to change anyone's mind and we just have a fundamental difference of opinion. Like I stated before I can understand cutting and burning wood as a hobby, I'll also concede that I can see how for some people in rural areas this makes sense. What I can't concede is that burning wood is a viable option for 95% of the population when gas is so superior in many ways. If you can't see how gas is superior you've already lost the plot and just don't get it.

I really can't stand the elitest attitude some of you have about burning wood.
There really isn't an argument that you can make that we haven't already heard, but it all boils down to this, I can buy wood for $10 a cord and heat my house for $50 for the entire sub-zero winter and stay nice and toasty warm. Running gas or electricity would cost me around $400/mo. I'm not the one with the elitist attitude.
