Please help me understand Porting.

I finally have sat down to read up on two cycle combustion.I never realized that the fuel went into the intake and down around the bottom end up through the sides or ports of the cyl. on its way to be compressed and ign.It took a visual look into the intake and where are the rings? Hmmm? So,this porting does it involve opening up the intake or the area on the sides of the cyl.that allready allow the mix to come past the piston?I assume that the powermix cools all the rotating parts before compression?To the modifiers and porters,I can see that it is a precision machining and thanks for sharing your tips.
 
You can take a little look at the thread I just put up this evening, it`s dealing with an 044 but most of the Stihl cylinders look like these and actually other makes look somewhat similar on closed port cylinders.
