I ran across a site that had videos of those things operating out in the woods, I can't remember where the danged site was... it's out there, somewhere.

Saw them on a discovery channel show, they have a sensor that will them it if the footing is hard enough real cool

There Timberjack machines , never seen one in action but saw them on TV a year or so ago they are a cool machine , but a fortune if something breaks I would imagine , and must be a pain in the A$$ to haul on the lowbed

Using one of those with a felling attachment, in conjunction with helos, could result in extremely low-impact logging. Otherwise, I don't see the point much beyond a proofofconcept.

Timberjack

Yah timberjack has had the concept now for a couple of years, they haven't actually gone into production yet i don't think. Just the prototype stages. I bet they would be a mechanical disaster if somthen serious went wrong though.

I saw the walking machine cut down trees in the center of town during an exhibition in Sweden. It was in 1996 and the machine was pretty slow, but it worked. The machine was first invented by Plustech in 1991. Plustech is now the research arm of Timberjack and has a website that shows video of the walking machine in action (plustech.fi).
