ok, ok... my nose smells like poo now. You can stop scrubbing it into the carpet... 
Bad part is, I'm an aircraft electrician by trade. I knew it had to be really simple, but I got it into my mind that the stud was case ground that I forgot there was a coil there attached to it.
Sometimes it's the really simple stuff that runs me in circles.
