Hi,
Thanks, yes there was 2 and I put in the right one.

Also worked with the settings on the needles and made no difference.

If the Carb is just bad, (been cleaned 3 times now including Ultrasound)...

I'll have to find another used I guess, see none new for sale?

(I put in a WALBRO OEM KIT, but here is a pic!)

You must be overlooking something.Post some pics perhaps of carb.
Hi,
Well, no doubt it's something stupid. usually is.

I've got the Saw tore down and waiting for a check valve kit to replace that, in case that was the problem.

Want to press/vac test, and install new rings and then will start over.

O'Reilly's has the crankseals, if I need those, so we will see.

Thank you very much!!!

Something stupid. If it has ignition, plug is good, has compression (108, good enough) Runs until fuel runs out. Might as well buy a spare saw, switch carbs.People asking ridiculous money for spare carbs for these (EBAY).Might as well buy a whole saw. When back together for the hell of it try to pull it through with throttle open a few pulls.Try a different plug also.

Ive found gunk in the impulse port of the intake, which the saw can pop on choke and run but not idle.
All the 3400s I've worked on needed the PTO crank seal changed, also good insurance to just do it .
If you do end up pulling the cylinder you could do a BGD for a few extra ponies.

Hi,
Thanks, never heard of that, will look into that!

Changing the seals, might be a good idea, too...

I can get them local, I found for about $4 ea.

The ones in the Saw have green paint on them so know they are original.

Want to test before I do, just for the education on this problem...

Still wondering if a seal or gasket leak can cause this?

I think I will do the BGD, have to see what the squish is...

I have a Lathe so could probably cut to get where I wanted but, have to think some more on that.

Would have to turn a mandrel to hold the cylinder.

Most leaks usually have a runaway symptom, unless severe holes exist.
Thats the reason I suggested the impluse port ,and its happened to me with a saw.

Seems like a bunch is work. I don’t want to discount anyone’s passion, but what are these saw actually worth? Seems like herculean effort for a saw like this. Is there any value to these things or is it just all for fun?

Asides from it being an enjoyable past time for some, much of the value is in improving one's knowledge & skill set which leads to having the confidence & ability to take on repairs to equipment that does have significant value

Well it certainly isn't a retirement investment with a 3400!

Which one of the 2 gaskets under plate in your kit did you put in? There is 2 to choose from. Show us which one you used.

Also did you clean and replace the little screen on other side? This also does what you describe.

Hi,
Thanks, here is a pic.

Everything was pulled and including screens and block of carb has been cleaned 3 times, including Ultrasound.

I now have a check valve kit on the way to replace that.
