Can anyone tell me if it is safe to sand pressure treated wood? I have areas on my deck, mainly rails, that are starting to splinter a bit. I am concerned with the dust from the arsenic-based preservative that will fly off while sanding. I want to play it safe! Thanks in advance! Joe

There are all kinds of dustless sanders teamed with HEPA vacs available now that every painter has to use them on pre 1978 houses because of lead paint. I don't think you are going to want to buy one just for this or if you can rent one. If not you might be able to make a deal with a painter.

not all pt lumber...

these days green treated lumber is copper quat not arsenic. copper is still bad for your lungs. also keep in mind that any wood dust is considered to be harmful.
