On the last day of the Elmore Field Days last year Stihl was selling them for $1400.00. Just about every farmer went home with one in the back of their ute.

:dizzy::dizzy::dizzy::msp_ohmy::msp_ohmy::msp_ohmy:

Wow what a discount, why wouldn't you buy one at that price.

Cheers

Justin

Thats a pretty decent discount, can't believe I missed them.

$1500 gets you a MS660R fully modded and shipped. That's with the dual dawgs, HO oiler, roller chain catcher, and 3/4 wrap too. Even if you want a 1/2 wrap saw, the R model is the way to go to get the other upgraded goodies.

Shoosh brad!! We are sick of hearing how cheap things are in the states!! [emoji30][emoji12]

ok. finally got tooled up by the local Stihl shop so i could pop the top off. piston doesnt look good but i reckon i could still have a go and see how it comes up. once i get the jammed rings out.

the jug looks and feels great. just a tiny bit of transfer below the exhaust port. should be a piece of cake to clean this up.

the cylinder looks rough from top to bottom:msp_confused: Not saying it wont clean up but it looks like you have your work cut out for you.

New meteor piston would be the go I think, that one is due for retirement by the looks.

A fair amount of crap on the filter support which is meant to be the clean side !

HD2 Filter will fix that problem.

there was a ms660 on for .99c Wednesday night i gave the guy i ring and convinced him to take it of for $150. Not to sure of the condition yet he didn't even know much about it called it an .mz650 or sumfn. sometimes you just got to take a risk

The MS650 is simply the poor man's MS660. It is lower spec but everything except the P&C is pretty well the same as an MS660. Just get a newer 54mm or 56mm Big Bore top end for it and you'll have the same performance as an MS660. I rebuilt one for a guy last year with a BB top end and it runs the same as his genuine 066.

Good to know, thanks yeah I was surprised so much go thru the air filter.

Rings were jammed on tight and broke but have made them free now. Gudgin bearing looks ok. Take piston jug and muffler to work tomorrow and tickle it all up a bit with the die grinder.

Polished up the bore. Came up pretty good I think.

looks like its been rolling around in the back of the ute for the past 6 years.

lol. used to see that all the time whenever in town on a friday, its the old beat up white hilux ute with the 660 rolling around in the back of the tray like the bloody Stihl ad on TV .. .There usually the townie that lives on a small suburban spread, with no fireplace ... just gotta look the redneck when they pull up to the pub in there thongs n stubbies i guess

It's alive!!
Thought I would take the brake cover off , holy crap! Packed solid with fine saw dust and oil! Cleaned it out and a can of brake cleaner later looks much better.
Still got to finish off putting it together but she runs!! Woohoo!
