Hi gang, I'm hoping someone has done this before.

Just picked up a Haldex Pump 28 GPM, 2-Stage, Model# 1080036
from Northern tool. The suction and discharge are on opposite sides
of the pump housing. In order to simplify and reduce the number of turns,
would it be possible to reclock the pump, rotate the rear housing in order
to have the suction and discharge on the same side? The pump bolt
pattern looks rectangular not square so it seems the only option would
be 180, not 90 degree rotation?

I'm hesitating cracking the pump open as I've never messed with a dual
stage pump so I'm not sure if its just two pumps stacked and bolted together on a common shaft.

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!

If you have room to put ninety degree sweep fittings in there with room for an open end wrench it will be fine. You can also buy hose fittings with longer ninety degree sweeps if needed so it is not a problem

Dont worry about the crazy plumbing-you should see the wacko plumbing on underground mining equipment.

Log splitters are like continous miners-they build them from the bottom up-but to a less extent.

Jason that pump should have a built in relief with a check valve to direct flow,
I would not mess with it jason, simply because once you crack the housing the o-ring seals will nead to be replaced and torqued to the proper tightness and unless you know it(the proper torque value) or have the o-rings it is a lose lose proposition unless you have all the complete information about the pump and risking a puncture injury from hydraulic oil under pressure which can be fatal.
With a two stage pump being pressure regulated to direct oil flow this is a problem due to the oil path inside the pump and if the pressure oil path can only go one way through the end section of the pump it will not work and blow the pump up unfortunately.

A small Vickers vane or gear pump with one inline relief valve going to tank from the pressure port side of the pump will acccomplish the same thing with out needing a two stage pump.

I do not mean to rain on your project, I just do not want to see you or anyone else get hurt.

Some pumps, like Parker -Hannifin,can have the rotation reversed, some can not.

I'm not familiar with the pump in question but as a rule the specs on the pump will indicate if they can be reversed.

Haldex doesn't say on their site nor offer any exploded views, torque and o-rings aside, it should be pretty straightforward, would be nice if someone went through the drill already.

BTW the 28gpm pump looks very nicely kickass.

if you email Haldex and give them your model number, etc and explained what you wanted to do, they respond very quickly with an answer.

i've emailed them before with several questions. i gotta say, unlike many other places, they were quick to reply. try it.

I did drop their support line the question, I'm very eager to hear what they have to say. Even an exploded parts diagram would give some clue as to how they're plumbed internally. If I can't clock the system I'll manage but having things aligned would be sweet.

Haldex's answer below, I guess its a one way street! :)

The make up of the gear pump only allows us to manufacture the
product with the inlet and outlet ports on opposite sides from
each other.
Hope this answers your question.
Thanks
