Greetings all,
I am a new member.
Looks like a great site.
wish I had found it sooner.
A little background info: newbie sawmill operator. Homemade! Lots of wood gathering experience though! I have a outdoor wood boiler heating my home.
I am primarily interested in gathering knowledge and experience from others on the pros and cons of band mills vs chain saw mills.
I would be considered hobbiest at this "sawmilling" endeavor.
I will be building some post and beam buildings here on my property.
I have 160 acres of property with about 80 acres in timber. Its a mixed bag of timber, spruce, pine, balsam, fir, birch and poplar.
I have to harvest all of the pine, as it has been devastated by the pine beetle.
I intend to do most of my sawmilling on the pine.
I have an older husky 2100xp and a newer sthil ms290 for saws.
Is there a preferred mounting position for chainsaws, specifically, is it better to have the saw working in an upright position or on its side. Is the lifespan of the saw affected in any way? Any other considerations for mounting?
Thanks in advance
regards
mike
sorry for the long winded-ness, I will make the next one shorter.
