Kodiak Kid, you guys that hunt brown bears have real balls!!! I shot a black bear with my .35 Whelen. He stood up on his hinds and started swatting the air while growling. The. Went down on all four’s running

I waited for backup before tracking him

By the time me and Uncle Mustang got to him, he had expired

Hats off to you guys for going after the big cousins

I have HOT loaded 45-70, .300win mag and .35 Whelen as my big three

Making me think if i ever do go on my dream Alaska hunt, i should go grab a Lapua6448F501-233D-4E53-A5A9-D9E98A71FED5.jpeg09AE5404-CDAB-45E7-9CC6-2F92102A1B48.jpegking size bed btw…..

So, we spend billions to develop a handful of stealth jets ... and China does the same work with a balloon!

We don't shoot it down before it goes over us, we shoot it down after it is done with its mission!

We are in real trouble!!!
What does that say about our President.

Geez, you guys have been busy lately on here.

Saturday I went to the cabin and got my four wheelers. Put them in the neighbors shop so they can dry out.

Today spent about 4 1/2 hours getting a couple of old trucks started, and then swapping wheels as the one is being sold. It’s a rare instance where we actually make money on selling something lol.

Nice, Any of those three cartridges will work. I don't think you need a Lapua Myself. The .300 loaded with a 200gr A-frame, Nosler P or Barnes TSX or TTSX will do the job just fine providing you make the first one or two count! Your not a resident of AK so you will definitely have a big game gide with you. He should be more than willing to go in to think cover to help finish the job if things were to get ugly. However, I have total confidence you'll do fine. Just don't shoot a bear if hes to close to you and has seen you. If you place a sloppy on accident? (Every hunter has done it at least once in their lives.) And its not a vital or crippling hit? He can come in hot almost instantly! Very hot! Your guide will tell you when to shoot. That's one of many reasons why they are there in the first place. You ever come to Kodiak to hunt Bruin? Give me a heads up before you go. I know a few folks here. 👍😉

I have this taped on my freezer out in the shop. Its a good flash card! 👍

If I had that sort of coin to spend on a machine, I'd have a hard time dropping $6k on a round column.
the geared head changes everything! even a new Enco geared is $3500. JET was always more for their equipment. Harley vs Honda sort of thing. even a 1 hp table top Jet, belt drive, R8 is upwards of $3000 these days. even used an Enco belt can run an easy $2-250.00! mine new NIB was just under $1K. then they jumped to $1250... i made a lot of chips with mine and sold a lot of parts, too! ~ i had a JET knee mill... bot used for $300. but had to have the quill repaired. another $300.

mills are neat tools. i still have one of my Encos. they take off where a precision floor stand drill press leaves off. the drill press cannot take side loads, the mill is made of it! and vertical, too. with a mill a drill point +/- .00025 is a breeze!

How often would you use it? Would it make you money? Do you want it? Do you Need it?
Let me put it like this Sierra!

Do I "Need" 15 🤔 no make that 16 STIHL power saws?
YOUR GOSH DANG RIGHTS I DO!! Everyone of them! Wether some run or not! Drop that coin on that drill press or whatever it is! You'll thank me later! 😉
plenty good deals in pre-owned... fgt and shipping aside! also ties to the skill of the operator. a well trained, exp'd machinist would want a Bridgeport, but a cut above DIY home mechanic... typically, would love either or... a JET or Enco drill mill! wood or metal... nothing cuts like a carbide end mill!

slip in the collet, then add the R8 end mill... and make the chips fly... in steel, alum, plastic or even wood! removal passes .0005" per pass, no problem... once set up!

Overshot the target?
I assume he did.
It happens as we all know. Here is how I repair or prevent over strike handle damage.

Before.
IMG_20230205_171948613.jpgIMG_20230205_172008586.jpg

Mix epoxy A snd B compounds 50/50.
IMG_20230205_173159735.jpg

Kneed until it is olive drab in color. Wet your hands first and keep them wet until done.

IMG_20230205_173330482.jpg
Spread evenly over damaged area and overlap the remaining good section of the handle. IMG_20230205_174039534.jpg

IMG_20230205_174003311_HDR.jpgLet stand at least 24 hours.

Tactical Tape works wonders! 👍😉 IMG_20230205_175129367.jpg

This one was repaired with old inner tube and heat shrink.
IMG_20230205_175440161.jpgIMG_20230205_175430686.jpg

The sledge came with a rubber gaurd.

i have been swapping in new tubes, old wheels and tires so i can save-a-buck on my curb scrounge mower i am messin' around with... neat lil mini-tire changers, once ya get it all sorted and figured out. bit of a steep learning curve though, imo...

this one had me stumped on night. came off ok, would not go back on. eventually i figured it out! ~ but took extra utubeU classes! the fronts will run same ol 30 yr tires... with bolt-on swapped out rims! tubes, too

tires, wheels etc washed and scrubbed. all rust worked over with oxide convert!! not paint, but gray enuff for me and covers the rust! a lil armorall too, and they look is near NIB! @ +/- 12 psi.👍

@sean donato.

Looks like I will have to make mine not move where the hydraulic cylinder moves it on truck mounts, the loader lift and tilt cylinders will move it. So maybe weld or bolt something across to triangulate it?
It’s also missing the rubber piece across the bottom, they replaced it with steel plate. And one cylinder is leaking, I brought it here so I can fix it before taking it up.

nice! looks like some HD epoxy!! ~ i just recently did this small claw hammer! ~ broken claw and handle broken/cracked in 3 places ~ found it (again) in one of my out-of-the-way corners at ranch, put there by me long ago... forgotten! had been abused. overstrike an understatement. side strike, too! ...it begged for some attention!P1010021.JPGP1010020.JPGP1010047.JPGP1010001.JPGP1010007.JPGP1010044.JPG
coating #3. i thot i would 1400 it, but decided this was good enuff! lol

the lil claw hammer is now a dedicated ranch house tool. and i keep it in my Stanley box currently, wrapped in protection. the hammer had a busted claw. (see pix #1) i could not have that!!! so i made and put back a claw. rock solid now. but will never ever pull a nail agin. it is for driving in the nails, etc. i have used it several times of late and it feels and functions as nicely as fresh new off Joe's Hardware Store's hammer rack! 🤩

:sweet:

other than the needed repairs, etc... what i wanted to give back to the hammer was its dignity! in that end, i feel i succeeded quite well. it is a prized, valued possession now! now can run with the pack with pride! :numberone:

I was looking at Grizzly, they have a knee mill that looks similar to that Jet, but for only $6k. My lathe is a Grizzly I got used, a 12x36, and I've had good luck with it thus far. I'm still messing with small projects on the mill, but the lathe has made me some money just from machining saw cylinders.

Having both has been super handy, just being able to make custom spacers, plugs, etc. The other day, I made this simple little plug to eliminate the throttle position sensor on one of my bikes, using the 4-jaw and the mill.

pix first time out of the storage shed in over 20 years! the mower had sat on flat tires for over 20 years! i saved them. job one was to get it to my place. job two is to make it a low-buc roller! that is all solved now, just need to button up couple loose ends!
P1010039.JPGi do not plan to mow with it. just a go-kart rider. 🤩 maybe reverse the drive pulleys down the slot in time. not an average curb scrounge as i knew the orginal owner. and family. the guy had long passed and the family used the mower then parked it one final time. it is, aside from the crud... as it drove in on its own power and then waited for the ravages of time. i found it sitting on the curb in front of their house couple months back. :surprised3: , I said, and it had grabbed me! lol ~

tuff lil project given the budget! 3 times it has almost been returned to the curb... :popcorn2:
