Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

I'm way behind again. Was just looking at the wood working projects going on. I took down a couple big Fir trees last year. This summer I traded a 6' Woods bush hog to my neighbor in WV for milling them for me. Had 10-12 slabs milled 4" thick with straight edge on one side, live on the other for mantel pieces, then the rest 1 1/2" for shelves. Then I decided I'm going to plane them down to 3/4" for paneling in my building in WV. He has everything stacked and stickered. I took the mantel pieces home. I went up for hunting season, and when I got to his property line there were no trespassing signs up. I knew something was wrong. I saw his mill was gone and hoped he put it in the barn for winter. No, his son stole it. He said his son had just got out of rehab a few days earlier. He heard him taking it and called the police. When the cops got there he was gone. While giving the details he said him and his son had actually gone in half and half on it. They said there was nothing they could do if it was half his. I guess I'd agree. The kid, 20 something, is a very talented mechanic, had a good job at a Toyota dealership. Dumped his girlfriend and ran off with some crack head to Ohio. Hate to see these young people today getting all screwed up. Different friends lost 3 kids in 3 years. Not kids really, young adults, 2 in the late 20's one early 30's. Two to heroin, one alcohol.
RE the mill… suggests a semi permanent set up with wheels removed and up on blocks would be a good precaution for folks to take… wheels locked up elsewhere. Make a bit harder to move…

I just got a case of deja vu. Heard a story very similar before with the son stealing the mill. Can't remember where I heard it.
Right here in this thread, Joe already told us, unless we're all that in tune with one another lol. Heck, BL told me I was talking about a car I don't think I've ever said a word about on here. Stuffs getting freaky in this simulation we're living in :crazy2: .

It looks like a chrome finish but it is not. I got this information on the piston coating from the Meteor website. (Picture) I'll make up a new gasket for it. I should have done that yesterday but was in a hurry. This saw is running beyond rich. It is filthy rich. I smoked out my 26 x 30 garage in less than a minute. I guess that is what happens when you fix the air leak in a saw by changing the crank seals.
Both the H and L screws were 3 turns out on the 254xp. Once I set them the L screw is just under 1 turn out and the H screw is just over 1 turn out. No wonder it smoked so bad. The saw is running great now. I took down some hanging trees today and bucked them up. The newly cut wood in this pile is what I dropped this afternoon.

He had it on 8X8's, no wheels. He heard him drive in, saw it was his son, so didn't look. His son had a side gig buying old Toyota's and selling them to a guy that ships them to South America. He thought he was messing with a truck. When he finally looked, they had it almost on the truck with a cable jack. It was just his son and his new girl friend.

Thanks for the shoutout here brother!
I am gonna be making one for my 254xp, but haven’t had a chance to get into her again yet, so I don’t have a template made for the base gasket right now, only the 2 intake block gaskets!
Unsure of thickness off hand, would have to check with my caliper, but it Is thinner than oem
Have been using a roll of Felpro gasket paper not this black paper, this was the prototyping stage.

Nice job on the intake gaskets. I believe my present 254xp base gasket compressed is .030 thick. My piston was hitting with no gasket and now I have .028 for the squish. I have a sheet of .020 gasket material that I bought quite awhile ago from Advance Auto. I'll more than likely trace out a new gasket using the old one and use an exacto knife to cut it out. First thing I'm going to do is break this piston in.

Was probably me, I've been so busy with family issues, I forgot if I posted it. My mother in law fell 3 times in 3 months and had to move to a nursing home, where she kept trying to escape. My Brother in law just got divorced and his wife threatened to burn his new truck, broke into his garage and stole all of his DeWalt tools. She had some guy come to the house and try to break into his gun safe, and he caught them. Then right around Thanksgiving, my wife got diagnosed with Breast cancer. She has already had other cancer and has had her lifetime dose of radiation. Same day she talked to a surgeon and decided to have a double Mastectomy and reconstruction surgery the same day. That was 2 Fridays ago. I don't know if I'm coming or going?

God bless, man. Hoping things take a turn for the better!

Very sorry to hear this .

Thank you sir!
That’s how I used to do it too, with the razor blade and old gasket, but I thought of a new way to make them more precisely using the wife’s machine believe it or not lol
I mean, sure it took me a bit to get the measurements just right when making the template and whatnot on the computer program, and countless test gaskets of course 😂
But now if myself or buddies ever need another I can spend much much much less money, and a minute of my time to cut a new set, instead of paying dealer or online prices and waiting for it in the mail or having to go get it 🤷🏻‍♂️
Also have some for the 50/51/55, and 61//266/272, still some fiddling with some of it yet to get final sizes and shapes

I hope your wife beats it. Cancer sucks.

Does he own a rifle? He could have stopped that real quick. I don't mean by putting a hole in him. I mean honeycombing his truck.

That is awsome.

Me too. Time to put them on FB. LOL. Sell them to NYC and Boston folks.
Well I'm calling StL CL for myself. You can have FB. That way I won't have to undercut you. Nah, I don't think they'd sell in StL. Real wood/rustic is not the trend nowadays. Especially if it's not painted white.

Best Wishes (and Prayers) for you and yours in the New Year.

I was really pleased to see on the "Mountain Man - Alaska" show that the Brown Bear Guide (Mike) was carrying a Winchester Model 71 Deluxe in 348 Winchester!

Took my first 3 deer with one of them!

This is mine - and that is a 1 7/8" group at 100 yds! She was made in 1940.

I have a Skinner Bolt Peep on it and the load is the 200 grain Hornady Lever Evolution Bullet with 61 grains of IMR 4350.

My Browning Reproduction of a Model 95 Winchester, in 30-06, also shoots pretty well with a peep at 100 yds.

This is the gun I was initially going to convert to 338-06, but when I saw how well it shot, I just could not do it. I owned it for decades before I fired it!

I'd love to hunt with these lever guns, but with the stupid "3 point restriction" up at my property, you are really handicapped it you don't use a scoped rifle.

I have since added sling swivels to this rifle. IMO, every hunting rifle needs them. It is tough to drag your game out with a rifle in one hand!
