For the first filing on some new Stihl chains a 7/32 file is difficult to get down between the cutter point and the raker (esp. if mounted in a file n joint jig). Think Stihl recommends 13/64 which cures that problem. Hand filing just a little twist and it drops down in and after one filing is no furthr problem. 3/16 gives tooo much hook and doesnt properly clean out the bottom of the gullet.
I like to start a chain with 7/32 then drop to 13/64 on the last third of the cutter to keep from cutting deep into the tie straps in the area over the rear rivet.
