It's been a long time since mid April, for those that don't remember the Simonizer was called out for not having enough evidence posted to support his claims of being able to build a saw that rips. Now must of us would think a guy with a mechanical engineering degree could build a saw, but most us had the attitude of show us the money.....put up or shut up. Simon volunteered to do a saw for free, only charge was parts, shipping, duty fees. It was a comedy of errors on my end with the postal service and then after he finished the Canadian postal service went on strike for a few weeks. In that time he built a 372xp that took fourthin the Tenn. work saw build off hosted by Terry. All who ran it where impressed.

Well the MS 460 arrived today. It is 100 degrees outside, the humidity is over 90%, wonderful conditions to run a chainsaw.

First of all I apologize for the video work, this was my helper's first attempt at videoing anything. I had trouble downloading video that was shot in April, I have many more clips but am having trouble getting them to down load, so there is only a couple of cuts pre-modding. I'll get it figured out an post more as I can.

SIMONIZED 460

The Simonized 460 rips. It takes me forever to download video as I'm on satellite internet. I took the average video and posted it, cut time were 23 secs, 25 secs, 26 secs, 26 secs and 29 secs.
A 26 second vid is posted, also one that shows noodling and one cut close to the butt.
The wood was seasoned ash. It is as hard as woodpecker lips, you can hear chain chatter. Both the before and after were cut with brand new out of the box Stihl RSC. It is the very same log that was cut in April, it has just seasoned that much more.

I calculated a 39.5%increase in performance. The saw is much stronger than when it left. I have no doubt that it would eat a stock 660 alive. What I find most impressive is how quick this saw spools up now, it's trigger response is as good as a 346xp. I'm going to pass this saw off to a cousin that logs everyday and get his impression.
This saw was warmed up for about 2 minutes and went straight to the wood, I'm sure it will get a little stronger.
Bottom line, I think anyone would be happy with a saw that is Simonized. For any that still have doubts, well if your ever in my neck of the woods your more than welcome to run it all you want to, that's about all I can offer.

I'll get better video's this weekend. It is supposed to cool down and I'll give my helper a tripod to use.lol

First of all thanks to Simon, he did a hell of a job! Thanks to many other's for being patient. I'm going looking for Hedgerow's new 7900.lol He hasn't modded it yet. It'll be fun to compare it to Stump's 372 at the next gtg. Now the big deal will be settling who runs this saw this fall, they'll all want to.

I was surprised, at how strong it runs. The improvement in throttle response is what prolly impresses me most. He explained part of his process, and it makes sense. I think he'll do well again at the 460 build off.
Three of us run it this afternoon in the 100 degree heat and everyone was impressed, all of us agreed that it is much stronger than the 660 we just sold. In fact it'll be sawing with that 660 in a few days.
We get to run them side by side, it'll be interesting to see the look on the cousin's face. First thing he'll do is look at the chain, he's always been able to get a chain a hair sharper than I can.

Good runnin saw I.S.... By the way, I showed the vid to DOLLIE... she says "BRING IT!!!"...

Look forward too it to running other saws, it's good to see what others run. I'm seriously lacking in Husky time above a 372 and modern dolmars.

Ok, I hate to admit it, but the 460 is on my bucket list of saws. Now, back to the throttle response... That was the first thing I noticed about Stumpy's saws! The second thing I noticed was a 372's ability to run a 30" bar... The torque of his potted saws was amazing to me. I'm a believer in ported saws. By the way, the 7900 has that throttle response right out of the box... Just sayin...

It's a dual port cover, I haven't even had time to open it. It cooled off enough just before dark to dig potatoes, the last couple of nights have yielded 3 heaping wheel barrows full.lol

I should have taken a piece of oaK I've got stacked up, that piece of ash is hard, it's almost as hard as hedge. It was good consistent knot free wood and was a log from the neighbor's were we had removed a grove of about 30 ash trees for him. He was pleased enough with our job that he's marked about 60 more trees to take down. We just charge him by the hour, we just drop, limb and remove the logs, he has a track loader and does all the clean up do it is a easy gig. It's too dang dry to put up hay, but I've got some that has to come off by the end of the week, hopefully this weekend and next week we'll get started on it.

It will be interesting to see if we think the 46o increases productivity, I can see it being a big positive when bucking. If I get a 20% increase in real world use, it would be beneficial. Maybe it will shorten the day alittle, I'm at the age and point where I'm only doing so much in a day before I call it quits.lol

I wish I could watch them.

Anyone here tall me why my youtube vids won't play? It just started yesterday. It's just a black screen on youtube, even the vids that are on here. What gives??? Pleezz help!:angry2:

Sorry champ i don't mean to be negative but a 40 % increase is a bit hard to believe,is this thing a cooky cutter GT saw or a work saw ?.I think a before and after vid is required to show improvements.
Sorry i require proof.:msp_unsure:

I get the same problem with the vid's. Firefox will play some and not others. Google usually plays them all. Try a different browser.

very impressive throttle response. looking foward to more videos of this and the gtg coming up .
simon did a great job porting this saw and having his 372 come in fourth place shows me that he can build a ported work saw:clap:

I am running Windows 7 and FireFox 5.0 and it works fine. In fact, youtube has always ran fine even before 5.0.
