Great vid guys, thanks for putting it together and sharing it with us.

I'll probably get the Dolmar though. I prefer to not do anything Solo I don't have to. :greenchainsaw:

I have a funny feeling that if the 7900 had a HD filter kit it would knock the Solo off in that first vid, for now anyway ;)
As I've mentioned before the HD filter kit for the Dolmars make a noticable difference.
Now bring on the porting :)

But what if you fit a similar filter to the Solo Matt.
We'd only end up where we are now, do you think?

You'd be right Al but the HD filter kit won't fit the 681 by all accounts.
In saying that though mate I am assuming the 681 filter isn't flowing as well as the Dolmar HD even though the stock 681 filter looks better than the 7900.
I asked this a while ago as if the Dolmar HD kit did fit the 681 I'd have one of those now I reckon :) It was only after a few piccys and comments from people that I realised that there were more differences between the 7900 and 681 than I thought. I thought it was just a few colours and a couple of cc :(
I love the Solo 681 by the way.

Yeah right.
Solo need to get their act together as Dolmar have done, but are 681 sales equaling 7900 to warrant the effort.

I'd say I doubt it, yet I saw a 681 a month back in the tray of one of the old firewood cutters here, just didn't get a chance to quiz him about it.

This old fella's crazy, he still goes out bush with a couple of Hargans Saws :jawdrop:

I really don't know why anyone with mechanical aptitude would buy a 372/576, 460, or 441.

Yeah, I really want the Solo now, but I'm not going to run out and unload my 441 and 460. Bailey's told me that you need to order parts online directly from Solo. How's that working out? Dolmar dealers are almost non-existent around here, so a 7900, even with the HD air filter (makes the saw look like a pregnant guppy) is out. Also, what kind of muffler mod do you recommend for the 681?

The cuts I showed of the 681 where with the better filter felt filter. I made additional cuts with the nylon mesh filter. Cut times did not improve at all and it definately lets tiny particulates past the filter. You can see them in the elbow the filter attaches to. I'd guess that the filter area of the 681 is twice that of the standard 7900. It's a much larger filter with lots of pleats.

That's why I said "anyone with mechanical aptitude" I get my Dolmar parts faster than my stihl parts, and that's with a good dealer and a major Stihl distribution warehouse nearby . Anyway I was just posting my opinion, no need to get snippy.

Wasnt trying to be snippy man, sorry it sounded that way.

Just for the record, I don't need no stinking dealer, lol. Matter of fact, I've worked on some of my dealers saws:) Just give me the parts. He's awesome about getting Stihl parts to me in record time. Most parts are here the next day since he orders every day. 'm not lucky enough to have a real saw guru for a dealer like some of you guys are. They are great guys though and do take care of me.

OEM vs Bailey's84

Nice job on the video Thanks , One quick question though. I will be putting P&C on just acquired HD 6401. I am seriously considering Bailey's 84 BB kit over OEM mainly over extra cost:dizzy: Has any one done comparison speed wise and I know it Has not been on market long enough to get long term reliability concerns. I won't be cutting cookies, just firewood 20-30" oak. Thanks

Except when you need to learn how to take a 180 apart without bending the rod, yes it took a dealer,LOL, messing with ya..

Here Brad, you will like this since you love chainsaws. Have a look see at the most modern and probably the largest OPE manufacturing plant in the world, open to full screen and enjoy..
