This saw came to me in non - running condition.
After I got it running, I noticed that the chain would still turn even at Idle.
I took the clutch apart and found 2 broken springs and a chewed up oil pump and drive unit.
I replaced the pump assy. and clutch/sprocket.
Now, I caint get the E-Clip to fit properly.
I know the clip sat flush in its recess before I took it apart.
I went to the local Stihl dealer and got a bag-o-new clips.
After two clips went a-zingin, this is the best I could get it.
I know it aint right...
Stihl MS460....
Please help!

Looks right. Those Stihl e-clips only engage at three points, the "wings" and the little dingus on the inside of the clip between the wings. There is a top and bottom face to them though - one face is slightly rounded at the edges, and the other has sharp 90 degree edges. The sharp face is the outer face.

I don't know what saw you have but that don't look right . That part that fits under the E clip or washer as Harley calls it to hold that rim sprocket onto the clutch drum is the culprit would be my guess.

Could the clutch need tightening up a little so there is more space for the clip?

I took it back apart and made sure the clutch was tight,
still couldn't get the clip to fit properly..
took it back apart and put it back together with the original clutch drum
and it went together like its supposed to.
Both clutch drums have the same number stamped on em.
I dunno.
Anyhow, thanks for the help fellers.

This saw came back to see me after less than a year..
Here is what I found....
The exact same thing as last time...
2 broken clutch springs...
Have not made it to the pump yet...
What should I do?

If you go back thru this thread you may gain a lil insight.
