Help....

Got a stihl 024 that's dead, think i may need to replace the cylinder as have attached 2 pictures, showing a side each.
side 1 has from fins down the following stamped on it .
4F then below that an A5 with 5 pluses.
then it has (and i may be wrong but to me it is) TIAHLE 42Zn12 W3
side 2 has the word stihl 1121

I am wanting to know if the cylinder is an 024AV or an 024 super so i can get the correct replacement.
any help be gratefully appreciated

dave

thanks DND9000,

Any particular area i should be look at (i.e. at the exhaust side, on the top fin where spark plug juts out).

Would be like a stamp (like you see on credit cards - embossed into the metal or like the word stihl on pic 2)?

will clean teh thing up in morning at have a look in the light of day.

Just got photo uploaded to the PC, From what's been said an the pic attached I've got an 024 Super saw.

Lastly who was the Mfg ?, Stihl or some other mfg.

dave.

No idea who cast jug. Likely is Kölbenschmidt or Mahle.

The good news is that you can bolt the much more common 44mm 026 P&C onto your saw. You’ll need to trim some fins off the top to fit it under the hood though.

Below is the amount you’ll need.

Well thanks you all,

From the helpful info you all have given me I'll take that I've got a 024 super/ 026.

In fact i was going to pull out the guts to make an 026 but a friend of mine suggested that i'd be better off just rebuilding the 024 as I wouldn't need to a complete rebuild.

To that end I shall start collecting parts.

Please note i stripped everything off but the fuel / oiler tanks (that this stage i decided to only replace cylinder and piston).

thanks for the help and hope this helps someone else down the way over time.

Dave
