OK, so I have this really nice 028 wood boss my neighbor gave me that he bought new. He takes really good care of his things, and doesn't really lose things either. I cleaned up the saw in the parts washer, as I intended to use it for firewood, just looked it over really well, etc. When I looked at the sprocket cover, it looked like it was missing the rubber chip deflector. When I compared it to an 026 sprocket cover I have (1125 640 1701) It was not the same. However, when I compared it to the 028 parts saw I have from pre-1984, it does not have that style of cover either. (1118 648 0400). I looked at the part number on the cover I have and it is 1119 648 0403. It looks very similar to the modern cover from the outside (squared off tail section), but the rubber deflector does not fit at all.

I scoured the internet and the parts list, looking for actual photos of other setups. I had lots of luck finding the old style with the tapered tail section, but no luck with the version I have.

I guess my question boils down to.........did Stihl not make anything to plug into the back of this thing to deflect the chips? Is this the complete setup?

My version:

Here is Version 1 of 4 the older style:

Version 2 of 4 old style:

I've looked into the other deflectors available and I am fairly certain that they only fit the older versions. They look like this:
Version 3 and 4:
028WB 1125 656 1500.jpg and 028WB 1125 656 1505.jpg

Finally we have the New Style: (latest version I believe)

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!
