I had the 028 and it was stolen . I'm looking for a new saw and don't know which way to go . I liked the it but it would be nice to have something with a little more power. It will be used to cut firewood . Dolmar , Husky or Stihl ? Scott

I'm trying to find a Dolmar dealer close so i can take a look at the 5105 tomorrow. Stihl dealers are numerous so the 261 will be easy to get a close look at. Thanks for the reply Adirondackstihl !!

I drank the STIHL kool-aid, but no matter, I would say Husky 550xp

If you've been pleased with the 028 Super go buy yourself a 261, I love my old 028 I've had it 30+years but the 261's just eat it alive, and the 261 is built like a tank just like the old 028's.

I went to a couple dealers today to look at some saws. I think Husqvarna is out . I liked the Dolmars 5105 was nice but the 6300 with a 20" bar really caught my eye. I looked at Stihl also. 3 dealers not 1 261 in stock. that says something for that saw. But I also looked at the MS391 with 20" bar while there. the 6300 and the 391 are in the same price range as the 261 and are more saw correct ??? Is either one an option or to big for my need for a firewood saw ? I really like the 20" bar as I am 6'4". Give me some input please

The 391 is an excellent saw, it will out perform a 261, it is a great firewood saw, it gives you more flexibility, no problems pulling a 25 inch bar for the occaisional big tree, sweet spot is a 20" with 3/8ths chain, but we sell most of ours with 25" bars. We will sell three or four a week, we have not had one come back for any reason. With your height you might be better off with a 391 and 25" set up so you don't have to bend over as much. You would be gaining around 3/4 of a hp, and if you really want it to eat wood have them set it up with a 8 pin rim sprocket and a 18" bar, the increased chain speed will make it a wood eating machine. Good luck with your purchase, if you buy a Stihl make sure to buy a six pack of Ultra mix and double your warranty to two years and take advantage of the 9.99 special on ear muffs and safety glasses promo that would normally run about 34.00.

I'm sorry it is the 6400 I looked at I looked so many I cannot remember all the numbers .

If you have a Home Depot rental department, check out a makita 6401. Around here you can rent one for about 55.00 a day.

Great sleeper saw. Sometimes Home Depot will blow out used ones for less than 300.00.
