Mark I get sprocket or rim drive drums from my favorite Stihl dealer for $15. Seems no matter what model saw but always $15.

Except MS880. Them mofos are past $30 because it’s ordered in special.
Well Carl I can't help that, you see the reciept. Even at $15 I can by 2 Oregon rims for that.

that's way above what my sprockets or rims normally cost from my dealer, unless it came with a clutch drum too... standard Stihl brand 7 or 8 pin rim for my 462-661 & husky's is under $4 here.
The small one for my old 026 was roughly $30 each IIRC, and I had to practically pull teeth to get a 3/8" rim for that saw.
The .325 rim was $7.50 for my 026, and they had half a dozen in stock when I finally switched over. Saw was much better with .325, as is my 029 & 390.

The bigger Stihl's like you list use the same rim size as the Oregon and everyone else's rims, so you don't have to go to Stihl to get those. They can't really gouge you on those like they do these other one's you can only get through Stihl.

Like I explained earlier in this thread, the main reason the 029 would do better with .325 is you can go with a smaller 7 tooth sprocket to gear it down to make up for the low power in them.

In my own testing years ago, on a good 60cc saw there was little to no cutting speed difference between .325 with a 8 tooth and 3/8 with a 7 tooth.

I also tested a 029 Super with a 20" .325, with both 7 and 8 tooth. In a full bar size piece of hardwood the smaller 7 tooth was faster and easier on it. That tells you it didn't have the power needed for a 8 in that situation.

I would see no reason to use .325 on a 039/390 saw, the power is there for 3/8 and a 7 tooth sprocket.

The reason this 029 I got here is getting 3/8 is its only on a 16" bar and the owner wanted the same chain on it as on his 046 and 038 Mag

SteveSr you were suggesting just buying the Sthil over Oregon sprocket, tell me again why.

There are NO independent saw shops in this area that carry Oregon. Everything is Stihl.

BTW, your dealer is ripping you off on that rim. $6.99 from Bryan DSRP.

Yeah well no **** they are ripping me off. Duh, but thats all the Stihl dealers around here. Most anything Stihl has always been a ripoff.

I live in NW Indiana, feel free to call and price them for yourself. Toadman mentioned the 3/8's rims were higher for him too, you might want to check that out

Now please tell me why I wouldn't be better off to buy the Oregon rim and drum set up one more time please.

Thanks Harley, guess I was wrong I'll go edit that out, but I was just find it hard to imagine that the dealers around here could raise there price that much. I mean thats not only doubled but tripled.

I have got tired of calling other dealers around here to get the same price from them.
