I came across a Stihl 031AV recently and I noticed it doesn't have a chain catch? It looks as though it never had one?
There seems to be a variation of features on these saws over the years?
This one has the slot in the top of the chain guard for a brake lever but there is no mechanism inside the cover. Rather typical from the pictures I've seen. I cannot tell from looking at it as to which type brake it had but I'm assuming that it had the clutch release type and was replaced with a regular clutch?
This saw has the spur type clutch drum. It is almost cut through. Is it worth while to put a rim type sprocket/drum on the saw?
This saw has a 3/8" X 20" Stihl bar and came with 4 Stihl chains. Seems like a lot of bar for 48cc?
Right now I do not know if it is a points type ignition or electronic conversion? Seems to run OK.
Otherwise seems to be complete and un-tampered with except for the clutch.
The price was right.
