im pullin for ya

Being a NH native (deerfield) and a saw junkie who just picked up an 044 that is in pieces I wish you good luck. I'll certainly look forward to your seeing your progress. I hope that my project is going to be a bit easier. Mine is; Bottom end rebuilt w/ allegedly stihl bearings, cyl looks good and ordered a NWP piston from Baileys. 28" stihl bar with a toasted nose, wheres the best place (anyone?) to get a replacement bar nose? missing parts onmy project saw included: oil pump was missing the hard line to resivoir (replaced w/ used from Chainsawr.com), brake band (also from Chainsawr) and the following from Baileys; Bar Nuts, chain, muffler bolts, air filter, clutch drum, drive sprocket + bearing. + felling dog/bumper spike off ebay. I picked up the saw for 160 and im roughly 175 in parts into it. Im hoping to make a bargain beast!

cheers!

P.S. anyone got photos on a muff mod for this saw or am I just mental for not being able to find them already posted?

Looking good now! Let us know how the welding goes. A friend and I are trying to gear up to be able to tig weld magnesium for just this sort of problem.

It was going to cost more for welding rod than for a new (used) case half. I bought one for $27 shipped off of ebay.

I would try to get a little more arch in the exhaust port roof just to be safe.

Gotta laugh about the dishwasher, but i have seen quite a few who do that... father in law has a large sandblaster, but figured it would get sand impregnated into the softer metals. thx for the info:msp_thumbup:!

+1 but there needs to be an arch both top and bottom of the exhaust port cause the rings travel over both.

Both sides have a decent arc on them now.

Port timing numbers to follow in about a half hour.

Starting port numbers were:

Ex 102* ATDC w/ 156* of duration
XFER 117* ATDC w/ 126* of duration
BD = 15*
Intake = ? whoops.

Looking forward to seeing what you end up with.

Now:

EXH 97* ATDC and 166* Duration
XFER 120* ATDC and 120* Duration

How does that sound? Probably ought to raise the transfers a tad????

The new numbers are with a Guiness can gasket. The squish is 0.020" with the gasket and 0.015" w/out. The original numbers are without the gasket.

I'm a little sketchy on how to check the intake side. I started the duration measurement right when the skirt closes off the bottom of the port. Is that correct?

If so, my numbers are:

EXH 97* ATDC and 166* Duration
XFER 120* ATDC and 120* Duration
INTAKE 75* ATDC and 110* Duration
BLOW DOWN 23*

What do you guys think?
