This old girl runs like a top, it's just having a hard time turning the 30" bar and chain on it when it's first firing off. It lugs the engine down, and throws some smoke off of the tip of the bar, then it goes like heck. No smoke, no issues. spins it right up. It's a 30" Stihl Duromatic bar, .063 width, and it can take either a .404, or a 3/8 pitch chain. it's got the .404, with the 7 toothed sprocket. (per what Stihl says to run.) I have never run a solid nosed bar before, and as such, I don't know if this is normal. is it?

Try running your chain just a tad looser. Fellow I used to cut wood with ran nothing but hard nosed bars and I never noticed his saw do that but then again his was only an 18" bar so this is just a suggestion.
