What is so special about a Stihl 090? There's one for sale on our local CL for $2,250:

"Extremely well running saw. Less than an hour on fresh rebuild (cylinder\rings\piston) largest saw Stihl ever built. 137cc, 13hp. Will push a 8' bar.
Comes with 32" bar with new .404 chain $2250 obo"

Seems crazy to me.

Can buy a lot of new41's & have them Braderized for that price;)
Yes but a 241 might have a bit of trouble pulling a 72" or longer bar, even if Snellerized.

I sold a much nicer 090 with 42" bar and chain for $900 two years ago and was lucky to get that. Gyppo had a nice gear drive For something like $1300 and another member had a much more usable/valuable modern 090 AV for $1150 and those sat for quite a while.

I suspect a 72" bar is not needed as much as an 18" bar, at least not in this country, as most of the giants are long gone. There are still moments when a big saw is needed, I'll agree on that.

I found an 090 for a relative and he got it for $300 with a 48" bar. Saw looked like new came from the township only used a couple times.

I've found that more modern saws generally out peron. A 3120 or 088 would be faster and lighter.
In some cases I agree that newer saws outperform older saws. My ported 088 & 880 both outperformed and felt better in their handling than my 101b did even though they weigh and balance the same. Same with my 044 outperforming my Mac 700 and 046 outperforming my 800. But a 090 is in a league of it's own when it comes to bars 72" and above. No a ported 088 will not have the same 137cc torque.
