Oh, I know.....You have to have a tank that is designed to work with it like the newer 026/MS260 which mounts from the *inside* of the tank.

Even as old as the 084 is, IIRC, all of them would accept this newer vent. I'm not 100% sure on that though. You have to have a tank that is designed to work with it like the newer 026/MS260 which mounts from the *inside* of the tank.
Now I know what to call itHere is a bulletin from 1997...View attachment 519740
All tank vents matter! Now I know what to call itIt's a mushroom valve, not an umbrella valve.
Your saw photos take "grub" to an new level! And take that filter off, here's the "flapper"...View attachment 519747
That is what I am talking about. How was the grub screw setup affixed to the tank? The 084 tank is made for these mushroom valves. The tit sticks up through the hole from inside the tank. You simply pull on that tit until the valve snaps into place. Remove the grub screw from the vent hose and you're done.

It's been too many years and I don't have pics of it. It was the factory setup. That is what I am talking about. How was the grub screw setup affixed to the tank?
Not quite... This is a similar setup to the mushroom but uses something similar to a gas cap vent and mounts from the *top* of the tank. Apparently this design still leaked too much for the EPA or Stihl so the design was changed to the red "mushroom" that mounts from the inside. And take that filter off, here's the "flapper"...View attachment 519747
