Some one gave me a good chain for a saw of mine its a link short but dose fit on my saw. My question is wil i hurt it if i use this chain? Saw is a Echo cs 346 16 inch bar oregon chain . Its suppose to run a 57 link this is 56 link same gauage and pitch

I just posted the same question. Great minds think alike. Guess one or the both of us will hopefully get an answer. I'll be watching your thread closely.

as chains are ran they heat up and expand thus makeing the chain stretch. so most likely the guy took out a link because it stretched to much that he couldent tighten it any more. this will not hurt your saw what so ever. run it all day every day . hope this helped ya 2 out

I have been known to slide on bar, chain and sprocket at the same time to get a shorty to work. Tail of bar only had 1/16" clearence with rim sprocket. Saw shop to add a driver is a twenty minute drive.
I've gone to a smaller rim sprocket to fit a chain plenty of times too.
