Only got a few minutes to look at it. Something's not right. Took the wheel out and still there's a slight wandering:

I can't feel any play in the motors shaft. But whith the wheel the wandering/oscillation is very noticeable. This was a freshly dressed wheel:

Is the collet that holds the wheel central machined properly?

I'll take it off and have a look and see what happens without it on.

Also wondering if the surging could have anything to do with the step down transformer (new, bought off ebay a few weeks ago) I'm using on this USA grinder?

Just hold something steady through the access cover (where you undo the allen bolt for the wheel) against the machined alloy part the wheel fits onto. That might show if it hasn't been machined central.

I'd say it has got a lot to do with it.

Collet was out a little but not much. Vibes less now that is kinda sorted via edge of grinding disk held lightly against it to deal to high spots. Thanks. Will have to find someone with a good transformer and see if that makes any difference.
Out of time tonight to see why uneven rakers.

back on the lube thing i have a rem 700 on it's 3rd barrel and never greased the lugs no probs here

it actually helps keep an even tension and wear on both lugs.

I've actually galled up the lugs ever so slightly on my Rem 700. Combination of excessive pressures and lack of lube.

but i don't load hot just optimum if i need more clout i just grab the bigger rifle
