The Champ
Today at 4.30pm I was at the rack explaining several small model Stihls to, of all people, a sweet little old lady about 70 years old, maybe 5 foot tall, maybe a 100lbs. She was very intent on buying a saw and I was very intent not to sell her one. To my surprize she tells me she has a Stihl saw at home thats well over 20 years old but she can no longer pull the rope on it. She wants to bring it in for me to sell for her and she wants a smaller easier to start saw. Tomorrow she's bringing it in but for the life of me I will not sell her a new saw. She may buy one but not at my coaching. Now the funny part while I was cutting up and talking with her here comes another little old lady up to the rack looking for a electic hedge trimmer. This lady is older than the other one and she's walking with a cane, I swear on the bible. I pointed them out to her across the store and away she went. About five minutes go by and she comes back to the rack where we are. She asks if we have any gas powered hedge trimmers. I pointed on the rack and she goes they are kinda high but I know Stihl is pretty good, I have a Stihl chain saw and its real good. I about flipped. This little old lady had to be 75 at least. I told her are you sure you want a hedge trimmer that big. She says I'm not sure, I'll have to think on it, I'll be back and away she went. I'm glad she didn't buy one for I would hate to think of her using it and hurting herself just as I do with the other lady wanting the chainsaw. The moral of this story is sometime a sale isn't everything. I think I could have easily poured on the charm and sold both of these dear old ladies but no way would I, some sales aren't as precious as the ones wanting to buy. Those two gals made my day but not a penny.
