Updating my splitter few questions, valve and pump

I picked up a splitter some old guy made
he blew the old motor on it 7hp and found another motor but was never able to get it all mounted
the motor he found was a twin cylinder 18hp briggs

i mounted up the motor and have been using it for a while split a few cords with it works good

its a little slow on the ram speeds but doesn't seem to bog down at all

my biggest issue is it doesn't have the auto return other splitters ive used had, while its not a HUGE issue, it is more of a pain then anything else cause im standing around holding it to open when i could be getting the next round

i do plan on updating some things on it
a little every year

first thing i want to do is change the control valve out with an auto return

i plan on updating the pump to a 2 stager down the line

do i have to buy a control valve specific to a 2 stage pump? or will the valve work on a single or dual stage?

prob gonna do that this year very soon

and next year get a 2 stage pump
