I've heard that you can use Veggie oil as bar oil.... I've also heard that it can turn to a hard glaze... Is it safe to use? What about vitamin E tablets to help preserve the Veg Oil? I would really like to use bio products, and am very interested in any information.... please help!

Bar oil for me is 4 bux a gallon, veggie oil is almost double that nowdays anyhow. I believe they make organic bar oil if you are just trying to be eco friendly

How could that bioengineered oil be good for your bar.. Canola oil is a human bioengineered product, I don't trust it!! Who knows what cancer causing madness has been engineered into it by the commies!! :jawdrop:

:dizzy:

Actually its a good question as to what oil to use.

I grew up using motor oil. Now mostly it was surveying, so we didn't do the saw chain in (cutting usually not heavy continuous), and we used slow running Homemolgiht XL12 for the most part.

However, when I got the Stihl, I reviewed all the argues and Figueroa I was better of going with their bar oil.

Canola oil is for cooking, and bar oil (particular from European Socialist Chainsaws mfgs are a bunch of greenies) is not only designed for a chainsaw, its environmentally correct. You just don't get any better than that.

I would not trust Asian bar oil, lord knows it probably has recycled PCBs, radioactive materials:) and lead in it they are trying to dump back on us.

Is he implying my used 15-40 rotella and used mobil 1 5-30 isn't eviromentally friendly? I figure most of it gets absorbed by the wood that gets burnt anyway, I guess that's causing the harmful emission's the tree huggers are using as a excuse to try to shut down the wood burners, not a 1/10000000th of the emissions caused by a coal plant.

Every little bit helps!

On the other hand, I got no emissions credit when I sold the old 70 Bronco that was an environmental atrocity (emissions wise compared to my newer rigs I bought).

So, yea, once you get big enough, then you get credits.

Me, I think the bar oil is better overall and for what I do, not a real cost driving issues.

And, if they want me to clean up my old Earthstove, they better offer offer me credits to do so!

I personally recomend Gary Goo far and above the veggie oil, it was made with 100% American crude, but due to extreme enviromental and Gov. reg.s, I'm afraid they recently were forced to close their doors, so gather up all you can while you can still find it!

It's not all about the EPA mang... that crap is just plain bad for saws and you! Waste oil has gasoline and/or diesel in it from ring blowby...

It's hell on oil pumps, and stains the saws and your clothing...

Gary

Yeah not to mention a few years down the road you can also get nasty things like cancer and other skin diseases from it spraying all over you. But what the hell i saved a few bucks.

page 14 of my huskie 350 manual they states that they have developed an optimal chain oil which has a vegetable oil base. they also say to clean it up good before long term storage to prevent oxidizing.
