I finally got to see the big Burr Oak I bought this 50" bar for. I under estimated this thing, big time! The root flare of this tree probably measures 12'. I'm guessing that DBH probably is 7' like I was told. The section where I'm cutting was at least 15' up before it blew down in the winds from hurricane Ike. It was still like 5' in diameter. The base of the tree is hollow but only for about 8' or so. I believe the wood I'm cutting in to be solid. Obviously we're not ready to start bucking the trunk, but I wanted to see how the 084 would pull the chain on this 50" bar with a 9-pin sprocket. No sweat! My BIL has a heavy hand with a saw and likes to push, so he's lugging it in the cut. It kept chugging along though. I'm more than happy with its performance. This is still only about the 3rd tank through this saw, so it's not even broken in yet. I didn't put a tach on it but it was a little rich and all 4-stroke at WOT, so there's still a little more there. That's a long sustained hi-load cut, so I figured rich was good. I hope to get in there and really get to work at Christmas time when we go back up. I'll have pictures up here in a few.

Damn, 9t and pulling that strong; you got one heck of a saw.

Hey, I got my cannon (can't tell if they really are) bars. They are old school roller nose. I will have to get a pic of it on my 075 I am gonna sell with it or the 40". Buying chain is gonna hurt.

Personally I'd think you would be better off gettin rid of the 9 tooth and getting back to a 8 tooth. JMO

I'd put my .404" skip, 72" Stock tuned Sachs-Dolmar 166 up against you in that cut LOL

Great video, that's quite a tree you've got there and that 084 looks good. I like how you ran the saw. You're BIL needs alittle coaching so he's not so hard on the clutch. Keep us posted on how this job goes.

Not to take anything away, but I'd throw a 7 pin back on that puppy. Those big saws were made for torque, not excessive speed, that's where they shine and are superior, in the torque factor. 372's and 440 & 460's were made to turn really fast, not 80 series Stihls.

Brad I am about 45 minutes east of Findlay, wouldn't mind taking a gander at the one still standing. If you want some extra help sawing up the other tree shoot me a line. A 394 with 36" bar is as big as I have.

Judging by the size of that Oak, you'd be limbing with your 394...Good work on the saw, pictures, and video Brad- very entertaining.
