Funny thing is same guy i did the trade with today when i got the 385xp from him two months ago i also bought a 281xp which also had 288xp upgrade but had bad top end. I just got good used kolbenshmidt 288 cylinder or however you spell it lol and all the parts to rebuild so now its going to Neal along with 346xp in trade for him to slap it all together for me. So the guy im getting these huskies from has been a gold mine.

Sweet. My 288 is coming from Neal, too. He's a great guy to deal with.

Is it the same local guy that nabbed the like-new MS461 that I had an agreement to buy? I'm still a little pissed about that...

When i talked to my guy today more in depth he told me that his family has been in the tree service for five generations so kind of makes sense why all the saws are upgraded. He also said anytime he comes across a big husky he'd give it to me and o could either buy it or rebuild and sell and we'd make money off them. Lol can't beat that kind of connection.

Haha how'd you know. He's burned too many bridges for himself.

My local tree services and loggers are very possessive of their saws... they hold onto them for parts, and keep buying new saws of the same model and working on them 'til there's nothing left to rebuild. My dealer is the same way. I asked him if he had any old saws for sale and he told me he saves them all for parts saws! We live in a repressed area, so a lot of people can't afford new saws or OEM parts, so he sells used parts.

I hear stories on AS about people giving away large piles of (nice) saws in exchange for boxes of doughnuts and I am just amazed!

Here are some pictures of the cs-3400.

Pictures of the twins and big brother. I do have a question for you guys why does one 272 have decompression and the other doesn't did certain years have them? It seems like the 272 with the decompression is a meaner saw just sounds like it revs higher. So obviously its the evil twin lol.

Early 272's had no decomp. I have one of those and while it's agreat saw, my one with a decomp has more power. I have no real way of quantifying it - just feels like it pulls harder.

I definitely agree the one with a decomp definitely seems to have more power. The 181 sounds like a beast with the 288 cylinder going to buy a bar for it this weekend.

Alright guys I think I'm done for the week. But here's my last score for the week, no more leads at this point. It is a ms361 project has a good p/c, ms440 parts saw came with a good 440 cylinder no piston, an 046 parts saw no cylinder has piston, and 044 12mm case/crank/good tank. Also a lot of parts for 044/440 and 361. Also have an extra 362 cylinder that has transfer but seems like it would clean up good it's a small amount.

I believe the decomp was added in 1994 but I don't know the week of the cut-in. The serial number of the saw without the decomp should start with a 0, 1, 2, or 3 (1990 - 1993) or possibly a 4 if its an early 1994. The Troll probably has more accurate timelines.
