Tips on pruning these for best shape, without going overboard?

OK, what did I do wrong? We have 30 to touch up today, Thanks for any help.
 
Looks pretty good to me!

You might want to go through all of them and get them into that shape, and come back with a pair of pruners and nip off the stragglers. I see a few in your after pic that I would cut back a little. It is a lot easier to do the final fussy work with hand pruners. When we had the Christmas tree business, we used to prune with a sharp machetti.

I like that you left the leader or top most candle. If you cut this one back too much, another branch or three will turn up and try to become the dominant leader. You can nip off the tip, but don't cut the whole thing back to last year's growth.

I have heard of the machette on Christmas trees. I used an old Sachs Dolmar 120si with 18" NK bar and chain. Don't know if I have the wielding skills to do it with a machette. of course a blade would be a bit lighter than that ole tank. It is a screamer though, flings those clippings a good ways.
