My friend gave me 3 wheel barrel loads of black walnut shells with the hulls and they make excellent stove fuel they burn hot and leave little ash. I suppose the oils in the nuts is what really burns hot.
I recommend you let the hulls dry from green to black before using otherwise they will produce a fog show from the chimney.
