hi I have read a lot about the 362 and how a lot of people like it. I already have a 115i dolmar and 046 stihl I cut with most of the time. so would there be any benefit of having a 362 besides just having another saw which is always a good thing.

If you are talking about actual need, I would say only if you are having trouble slinging the weight of the 460. Other than that, as nice as those 362's are, it is an in-betweener saw between your two. I think a 262XP is the perfect one saw plan, and I have one but don't normally use it. The 550 handles the smaller stuff with a weight savings, and the 372 handles the larger stuff, and the weight isn't unbearable.

I really like my MS362. I run it mostly with the 20" bar. If I had your saws - 460 I'd run the 20" and 25" on that and use the 362 with an 18" for smaller work. The MS362 balances well with the 20" and is a treat to cut with. I do not have experience with other brands of saws other than a few small Husqvarna saws so I cannot compare to other options but the MS-362 sure is a great saw IMO.

STIHL tried to make a good saw with the 362 but the epa is the reason it just doesn't do well in is class. You would probably never use it if you have an 046.

We have a Stihl MS 362 C-Q (1140 200 0006), equipped with the original 15" bar (3003 000 6111) and an extra 18" bar (3003 008 6117). Oilomatic 36RS 56DL (3621 000 0056) and 36RS 66DL (3621 000 0066) chains are used. We also added an Oilomatic Rapid Duro RD (3943 000 0066) chain, which was a very expensive and bad investment, since it did loose all it's teeth, for our purpose.

The QuickStop Super (Q) has frozen some times for us. Unfortunately we couldn't get the heated handle (VW Arctic version) in combination with the safety (QuickStop Q) feature. In retrospective, we rather had chosen the VW version instead.

We like the saw, it's robust and has a fine running engine. It's the first saw we've experienced with a longer bar than our standard 13" here, as well as our first saw with more than 50cc engine. We do recommend it.

You are right that you should have got the VW (Arctic), and should have avoided the C-Q!:)

I just got a 461, but I still use my 362, a bit lighter; with a 20 inches bar, you don't have to bent to cut off branches; your back doesn't hurt after 30 minutes. It will handle a long bar, without being heavy... Why??? Because it has a niche by itself... Nice to have...

don't know why all the haters are jumpin the 362. I like mine a lot. runs about 15 minutes longer on a tank then my 360. with very much about the same power. much smoother with the anti-vibes too. I don't notice the weight between the two but some will scream about an extra ounce or two.
so for me...I'll buy another one when the price is right. and they come up in far better shape used then most 361/360's.

Did anyone say that they hate it - I believe not?

Not hated, but around here (the PNW) the 362 gets no respect. They sell for less in better shape than either the 361 or the 036/360/034 Super. People bought them when they were new and unloaded them on CL pretty fast. The 362 has M-tronic now though, so they may be a lot better in that configuration. I have yet to see or run an M-tronic 362 model though.

I do not need another 361, but I would buy another one. I have no interest in a 362. 036/360s are like gold around here and sell for a premium. The 361 are starting that trend as well. The 361 is as smooth as the 362. Its noticeably lighter, and while gas mileage is not quite as good, it is hardly a problem. I cut at WOT so I do not see the need for a wider power band. The 361 has more top end speed than my 036, and the 036 has more low end torque. I prefer cutting with my 361s though. Actually I like my 361s better than any other saw I have owned (over 100 of them; advanced stages of CAD).

BTW: the 362 is heavier than the 361 by a lot more than just an ounce or two. Try 11.2 ounces. Double digits...

If you can tell the weight difference between the 361 and 362 you must have a digital scale in your brain. The weight difference is negligible at best. I've owned both saws, and I can tell you the 362 is simply better, than the 361 in every way. I love how people have strong opinions about something, without having any firsthand experience with it. I personally was never a big fan of the 361, way overrated! IMHO.
