Ok gang, I currently have a 201tc and a 310 looking to upgrade from the 310. Itā€™s between the 261c-m or the 362 c-m. Would like to stay in the 18-20ā€ bar range. I ran a 20 on the 310 with Stihl yellow chain. Lots of ash and maple here, few oaks and walnut nothing bigger than 20ā€ diameter really. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If me. I wouldnt even look at a 362 anymore. Same weight as the 400 that replaced it.

So I would figure out if you need a 261 or go to maybe never need the bigger cc of 400 and have it for same weight as the lesser cc 362.

Better to have and not need, then to not have and need more cc.

Both still weigh less then the 310.

GL with your choice.

Excellent point and I forgot about that when I wrote the above. 400 is amazing

I'll echo this, no point to the 362 since the 400 came out. Had my 400 for a bit over 2 years now and I will say with the utmost of confidence it's everything the 362 should have been.

So I just read through that other 400c 40 page thread! Youā€™re definitely not a fan of the 362 Lol! So hear me out, I havenā€™t ran any pro saws the biggest saw Iā€™ve ran is a 391 with a 25ā€ bar. And of course the 310 w/ the 20ā€ a lot. So with not having anything really to compare it to wouldnā€™t a 362cm be a huge improvement over what Iā€™ve ran?

A 362 will feel a lot like a 391 but a bit stronger and a bit lighter. I would definitely consider the 400c just because of the specs. But who knows, if your local guy can get you a 362 for a screaming deal then go that way! I know a few dealers local to me are starting to clear out their old stock. I think we might be in for an entire Stihl lineup overhaul in the next year....
