Call before sending your resume to introduce yourself and let them know you are applying for the position. Be sure your resume is sent to the right person, not just a general "to whom it may concern."

Then, call again on Friday to verify receipt of your resume.

Definately call first and ask for the person who will be administering the interview. Stand out from others by showing a BIG interest in the position and getting your name on their minds. I try to ask at least 1 question for every question that is asked of me. That shows a definate interest on your behalf. Like Treeman14 said, it would be good to follow up too.
