    Looking at getting into climbing

The first packet on this page Tree Climbing DVDs and ArborMaster® Arborist Training DVDs and DVD Rental would be great to start with and you could add "cutting and rigging in the tree" with that, plus Baranek's book "The Fundamentals of General Tree Work" is essential for anyone in the tree...

Anyone in the Seattle Area have a Lucas Slabber and want to get paid to use it?

I have two Pin Oak logs on the ground in Kirkland that a client wants milled, and I'm having trouble finding someone to come out and make some nice slabs. I either can't get a call back, or people don't have a mill wide enough, or are too far away (ect). Anybody interested, I'm happy to pay a...

    Climber Falls near Seattle

My buddies climber fell approximately 20'-30' after running out of line repelling. From all reports I had heard the guy was an excellent climber, now he's laid up with a broken pelvis, rib. and bad concussion. Sad thing is that he had access to a 225' rope, but opted for a shorty to save weight...

    Have problem, need feedback

You guys will notice that the original post was close to two years ago now. And to clarify some questions asked, no we were not formal partners with a written contract, and when I talk about values I'm not talking about skills, I'm talking about the way you treat other people (clients...

    Have problem, need feedback

We are no longer partners, and our friendship was hugely strained by being in business together. If you are going to have a partner in the tree business, you have to have very similar values and philosophies. The person in question has gone on to to make good money in trees but in my opinion is...

    Have problem, need feedback

Tree felling is not the easiest thing to do, often times small factors such as hinge width, and notch depth can steer a tree in an unexpected direction. Thanks for all the imput guys. Matt and I are good friends and we will work it out. Thanks John P.S. Jeff I live in Bothell. Do you log...

    Have problem, need feedback

Today me and my partner went to work, (we are money partners, he has a dump, I have a chipper, we have our own saws and climbing gear), towards the end of the day we had one last tree to take down, he climbed it, set a rope in it, came down, made his notch, back cut, then ran around to help me...

Advice needed for starting a tree service business.

My question to you would be what do you know now? Do you have a backround in horticulture, do you know how to prune small trees? Their are different avenues to pursue in the tree biz. If you know very little go to work for the best guy you can find, and get the tree climbers guide by Lilly. Also...

    Looking for used Rigging

Thanks for the responses guys, and since I've got your attention, do you think building my first rigging setup around 5/8 bull rope a good way to start? I'll be using the equipment to lower branches out Doug Firs, Cottonwoods, and Maples, pulling over trees, occasionally lowering blocks. I...

    Looking for used Rigging

I'm still doing the rope over the branch technique and want to have more options. If you have safe serviceable rigging gear that is collecting dust, or you would like to upgrade, I'm buying. Thanks John

    Invaded Hemlock

Frass! That was the word I was looking for, yes there is frass. No fungi though, the the canopy looks good as well. I'll do some investigation around the root crown and the cavity. Thanks John

    Invaded Hemlock

I found this cavity in a Hemlock at my folks place, the tree is about 90' tall, and there seems to be a bit of duff in the bottom of the cavity. It's obvious that the tree has bugs, but how do you deal with them? The tree seems to be in good shape other wise.

I want to Learn the Tree Business (Seattle)

Just for a day (I took some pictures, and did a little work), at the time I was still looking to keep my landscaping business going. I'm at the point now where I'm tired of wearing all these hats, I just want to do trees now. John

I want to Learn the Tree Business (Seattle)

Looking for Work (Seattle) I'm currently working on my own as a landscaper/"tree service light" type operator. I really enjoy working in, and around trees; and I hope to get an ISA certification in April of this year. I would like to go to work with a skilled, and experenced crew, and learn the...

    A Crane?

Thanks for the imput everyone. There is actually not a good tree to tie into close by. I think I'll take a few more pics for grins and giggles though. One of my problems is that I would like to tie off the tip of a branch that I' m not sure how to get out to. If you look close you may be able to...
